Fist off I felt that everyone wanted to blame the United States or United Nations and MRND. But, it wasn’t bad because it made me look at our country like why didn’t we step in and help? But, then I started to feel different towards the end. I also felt like we shouldn’t always have to be the country to bail out another when then in trouble. When I thaught that most of the fingers were being pointed at the United States and MRND (the radio station). It helped me have a better understanding of the situation and what actually happen. In the beginning I understood the first main thing that happened. Like I knew Rwanda was in genocide and it was the Hutu’s against the Tutsi’s and the Tutsi’s were the ones being killed.
But, after everyone started bashing other countries pointing the finger and being pacific of what actually happen I felt more comfortable like I was actually that country.. The thing that country did or didn’t do. Even how it changed or affected the whole situation. I don’t think everyone understood. But if someone who was assigned France was pointing the finger at the United States and trying to blame us. We were simply defending ourselves against everyone blaming us and saying that we thought we were doing what we thought was best. It was kind of annoying that they couldn’t come up with any other reason to blame us.
The only thing they kept saying against us is that we didn’t help. But, we really didn’t have to it been like it had something to really do with us. They didn’t say United States must help Rwanda. It’s not always up to the United States to fix every problem. I really didn’t think that France had to help. But, Uganda definitely should have because they are right their it start problems with them.
I definitely think everyone learned something from the debate. It also helped us be in the position the other countries were to see how hard it is for them to defend their selves and decide how to solve a problem of so many people dying. I believe that we should continue thinking on how to solve world issues by putting ourselves in the country’s position. Everyone made good points and good ideas. People also did some pretty good bashing and blaming other countries to take the attention away from them.
